As a one-day challenge, students in grades 2 and 3 created animals or creatures out of only magazine pages and tape. We cared not what was written on the page, but instead ripped pages out of Better Homes and Gardens with reckless abandon.
Students practiced crumpling paper to make ovals and spheres, and coiling paper to make things like legs and necks.
Some of the results were pretty great, and students got some exploratory practice in before an upcoming project.
This blog is a reflective practice of Liz Chisholm, an art educator working and learning in Chicago. It is a virtual space to share students' processes and accomplishments. The blog documents art my students created at Coonley Elementary and Lane Tech High School, as well as work made during summer and after school programs. It features projects which may be of use to other teachers and artists, and it serves as a reminder of what works and what didn't.
